Regulatory Update – OSHA Releases Long-Awaited GHS Final Rule

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has announced the release of the long-awaited final rule to align the Hazard
Communication Standard with the United Nations' Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals. The rule was
published in the Federal Register on Monday, March 26. Major changes from the current HCS include revised criteria for classification
of chemical hazards; revised labeling provisions that include requirements for use of standardized signal words, pictograms, hazard
statements and precautionary statements; a specified format for safety data sheets, formerly known as material data safety sheets;
and revisions to definitions and requirements for employee training on labels and SDSs.
