Check Valves

Check valves are crucial for protecting upstream equipment, usually rotating equipment, from downstream changes in flow. Check valves must be properly sized, located and their behavior understood. All AFT software enables users to model check valves. In steady state solvers, check valves can be sized and determined if they will be open in steady state. , a transient solver, will allow engineers to characterize how fast and what resulting surges will come of a valve closing.

In transient studies, an inertial swing check valve model can be used. Using the regular check valve model, users also have the option to specify closing limits. These limits may be important in preventing the creation of large surges when the valve closes. Additionally, valves that close too slowly may not provide adequate protection to equipment upstream.
