Pumps may encounter several situations where the motor or driver will be turned off purposely (pump shutdown) or unplanned (loss of power). This is known as a pump trip and is important to understand how this will impact hydraulic systems because it can lead to waterhammer. has two trip models that will accurately model how the pump speed will decay after the trip if properly specified. AFT Impulse includes four quadrant pump modeling to model a pump that may experience backward flow and/or rotation and predict the impact the pump and motor inertia will have on the pump’s rotation.
