When steady-state calculations aren't enough.

See how Azbil used CHEMCAD to build a cloud-deployed digital twin that predicted LNG fuel tank behavior across a 65-day voyage — before leaving port.

Pressure control, BOG management, and fuel planning. Validated in simulation. Proven at sea.

Managing LNG tank pressure on a vessel isn't a steady-state problem. Heat transfer, engine load changes, bunkering operations, and long ocean passages all interact in ways that steady-state calculations simply can't capture.

Azbil partnered with Datacor to develop a dynamic digital twin of their LNG fuel tank and fuel gas supply system using CHEMCAD. The result: a cloud-deployed simulation integrated with the vessel's Sea-Navi® 2.0 system that delivered real-time predictions and operational guidance throughout the voyage.

What the case study covers:

  • How the digital twin accurately reproduced measured tank pressure and liquid volume during both isolated conditions and active bunkering operations
  • The modeling approach for non-equilibrium vapor-liquid behavior, ambient heat transfer, and BOG generation
  • Voyage simulation results across a 65-day Singapore-Australia-Japan route
  • How operators used the tool to evaluate pressure margins, spray requirements, and fuel availability before and during navigation
