WMS Inventory Accuracy

Summary

Datacor WMS is a mobile warehouse management system for process manufacturers and distributors running Datacor ERP. On October 22, 2026, Datacor’s implementation team walked through six everyday inventory practices: receiving, inventory moves, adjustments, cycle counting, order picking, and batch staging. For each one, they compared how it runs in the ERP alone with how it runs on a handheld with Datacor WMS. They then answered questions from attendees. The full recording is above.

Why Do Process Manufacturers Struggle with Inventory Accuracy?

In most warehouses, inventory data trails the physical product. A receiver writes quantities on a PO receiver, and someone keys them into the ERP later. Transfers are recorded after the fact, if at all. Discrepancies wait for the month-end physical count to surface. In the meantime, teams lose hours searching for stock and rekeying numbers. They pay premium freight to fix shipping errors. They also carry traceability risk, because nobody can say with certainty which lot is where. When location knowledge lives in people’s heads instead of the system, accuracy depends on who is working that day.

How Does a Warehouse Management System Improve Inventory Accuracy?

Datacor WMS records each transaction at the moment and place it happens.

  • Receiving: Receivers capture quantity, lot, and expiration on the dock and print a label right away. Several people can receive against the same purchase order.

  • Moves: Every move is scanned from one location to another, which creates an audit trail of who moved what and when.

  • Adjustments: Authorized users correct quantities on the spot and must enter a remark.

  • Cycle counts: Location-based counts let teams verify, zero out, or recount a bin every working day instead of 12 times a year. The month-end physical inventory process is still supported.

  • Picking: Pickers are guided to the first-expiring or first-in lot. Scans block the wrong product and expired lots, and they can enforce customer-specific shelf-life requirements.

  • Batches: Batch staging and batch receiving move materials to and from production with the same scan-based control.

The one prerequisite is location and bin control in the ERP. Turning it on is a project of its own, and the presenters recommended starting there.
